It is no longer news that the Edo State Government recently
banned motorcycles (Okada) and tricycles from plying the road in three LGA
of Edo State. This local governments include Oredo, Egor, Ikpoba-Okha including
Aduwawa in Uhnmwode and Ekosodin in Ovia North East.
It is the prerogative of the government to initiate whatever
policy their head can concort. Abi non be so. But do you not think that the
government has a responsibility and obligation to its citizens? Nan so dey
teaches us for Citizenship Education for school.
The governor insists that the ban was for the security of
the state and its citizen. I non know wetin they dey secure. Okada person never
try kidnap me oneday or thief my bag. Maybe nan because they look me as poor
man.
I was on a bike in Benin after the promulgation has been
promulgated (is that correct) but before it was in force and the okada rider
was gisting with me. I happen to seek his view concerning the ban, his response
is not fit for printing but suffice it to say that he vociferously denounced
the comrade governor as a scoundrel who chose to visit penury on the already downtrodden
after they voted for him.
Ripples of the ban are already being faced in other part of
the state just as Okada riders in the polytechnic community of Auchi are
devising means to make sure that the overspill from this ill-conceived policy
does not reduce their market-share of the
student population who needs to be ambulatory.
My personal opinion though you may not agree with me is that
this ban was ill-conceived and misguided. I fear that this law is a result of the
governor catering to special interests. His plan, me think is to settle
transportation company like Bob Izua Motors, Edegbe motors, etc abeg this blog don
dey sound like commedy. All the same, i believe in instituting this gruesome
policy, the Comrade Governor (***Heil Hitler*** abeg ooo. Non be comrade the
Nczis they call themselves, abi our comrade governor nan one) has not given a
thought to the plight of resource-poor citizens (non be resource control we dey
discuss. That one for another day). Either this or the governor is trying to
emulate his brothers in Lagos, Bauchi and other state who has banned Okada
riders. If this is so, can somebody help
me remind the comrade governor that these are state that are heavily industrialized
with job options abundant for their citizenry.
Please comrade governor, stop fighting your citizens, they
voted you there so you can better their lives. Stop pushing them further into
penury.
My people until we meet again. Peace. Out
